Capella Singapore
JULY 11, 2010
The restored British Colonial buildings that mark the entrance to Capella Singapore shield an even greater architectural treasure. After passing through the 18th-century structures, which house the resort’s lobby and library, you step onto a grassy terrace offering views of a curvaceous edifice that sinks into the hillside below. Designed by architect Sir Norman Foster, the five-level marvel of glass, terra-cotta-colored aluminum, and smooth concrete looks both exotic and futuristic. The Capella is located on Singapore’s Sentosa Island—an area being developed as an upscale residential community with a casino and a marina—just 10 minutes by car from the Central Business District, and adjacent to the Sentosa Golf Club. Accommodations Capella’s Several of Capella's 111 guest rooms and suites afford views of the South China Sea. Dining need Facilities Three swimming pools that, like Foster’s structure, cascade down the landscaped hillside. Rates From $520 to $5,170.
